This 60-minute presentation will visit the Canadian Diabetes Association Clinical Practice Guidelines especially as they pertain to Medication management. Rob will bring his expertise as part of the expert or writing committee of the Guidelines to the presentation, by providing some of the new and updated recommendations that are pending from the new Diabetes Guidelines to be released next month.
In addition Rob will discuss the new emphasis on individualizing therapy goals and treatments, by visiting the various criteria in determining these objectives.
Also on the presentation agenda is the discussion of an algorithm that facilitates choosing a second or third line therapy after Metformin. This potential tool will include various treatment considerations and will help prioritize the choice of therapy based on a a particular patients needs.
The presentation will wrap up with at least one possibly 2 case discussions (Time limited), that would emphasize the evolving role of the pharmacist in helping manage patients with diabetes. The above concepts will be incorporated as well as a review of the NB Pharmacheck documentation and processes will be included as part of the case studies.
